PRIVACY POLICY
THE SHORT VERSION
Local Solar System is a small business that sells custom-engraved plaque sets at localsolarsystem.org. We collect what we need to make and ship your order and to answer your messages. We run no ads, set no tracking cookies, and never sell or rent your information. A few companies process data on our behalf to run the site, take payment, keep our order records, and make the plaques; they are named below.
WHAT STAYS IN YOUR BROWSER
The order pages keep your draft, the material, your scale measurements, and the details you type, in your browser's session storage. That draft lives on your device only and is cleared when you close the tab. The place name you type on the homepage plaque is not stored at all. Nothing you enter reaches us until you send it yourself, by placing an order, joining the notify list, or emailing us.
WHAT WE COLLECT
- Order details. When you place an order, we receive the specification you entered: material, scale measurement and units, the installation location to be engraved, your name, your email address, and your site notes.
- Shipping address. Stripe collects your shipping address at checkout and passes it to us so the finished set can be shipped.
- Payment. Payments are processed by Stripe. Card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our site or our inbox. Stripe's handling of your data is described in its own privacy policy.
- Notify list. If you ask to hear when ordering reopens, we keep your email address, the page you signed up from, and the time.
- Correspondence. Emails you send to [email protected], and our replies.
- Server logs. The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver pages and protect against abuse.
- Analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits and page loads without cookies, without fingerprinting, and without following you to other sites.
- Fonts. Some of the site's typefaces load from Google Fonts, which receives the standard requests a browser makes when fetching a file.
HOW WE USE IT
To make and deliver your order, to take payment, to keep business records, to respond to your messages, to tell you when ordering reopens if you asked us to, and to meet legal obligations. That is the whole list.
WHO PROCESSES IT FOR US
These services handle your information so that we can run the business. Each receives only what its job needs.
- Stripe takes payment, calculates sales tax, and collects your shipping address at checkout.
- Cloudflare hosts the site, delivers email sent to hello@ to our inbox, stores the notify list, and provides the analytics described above.
- Airtable holds our order log. Each paid order is stored as a record with its specification, your name, email address, shipping address, and notes.
- Resend sends our email notifications.
- Google provides our mailbox for correspondence, and Google Fonts.
- Our plaque vendor receives the engraving artwork, which carries the installation location and the figures, together with your name and shipping address so that the finished set can ship to you.
- Shipping carriers receive your name and address to deliver the order.
We also disclose information to authorities if the law requires it. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information with anyone.
AUTOMATED PROCESSING
We use Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic, in our order pipeline. It reads each order's details (the engraving figures, the installation location, your name, email address, shipping address, and notes) to prepare the engraving files and to draft our message to the vendor. A person reviews the result before anything is made or sent, and no decision about your order is made automatically. Anthropic processes that data in order to provide the service.
HOW LONG WE KEEP IT
Order records and correspondence are kept as long as needed to fulfill orders, honor our commitments, and satisfy tax and business record requirements. Notify-list addresses are deleted once ordering reopens and we have written to the list, or sooner on request.
YOUR CHOICES
Email [email protected] to ask what information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted where the law allows. To leave the notify list, write to the same address with the word remove. The order draft on your own device is yours to clear at any time.
CHILDREN
The site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
CHANGES
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
